We’re looking for a Design Director that will help shape a new era of creative excellence at Hothouse, using strategic rigor and an artistic eye to do so. You’ll mentor, guide and inspire your design team through an array of complicated design challenges across web, digital, social, video, collateral, visual identities and more. As an energetic, hands-on practitioner who leads by example, you’ll also roll up your sleeves and contribute stellar design solutions of your own.
You’ll collaborate and co-create with your colleagues and clients in a dynamic, independent agency environment where your talent makes true impact. Key Responsibilities
- Build, manage and motivate a team of designers and studio artists to ensure the highest level of quality and performance
- Support the departmental vision of the Group Creative Director through close collaboration and the contribution of your own inspired goals for the department
- Apply strong design sensibility to every job you touch
- Develop strategically sound, compelling design solutions that clearly meet provided briefs and/or client objectives, including new business pitches
- Present work to both colleagues and clients, providing a strong, articulate creative rationale for the visual story and decisioning
- Manage delivery for multiple projects, clients and budgets in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Collaborate with agency team members to craft and optimize a creative workflow process that ensures consistency in brand standards and highest level of quality
- Develop, elevate and transform the agency’s design function and point of view
- Remain current on the latest design and technology trends in the industry
- Develop strong, highly collaborative relationships with internal team members at all levels
- Manage photographers, illustrators, printers and other vendors who are involved in the development of the project
Requirements
- 5+ years of design leadership experience within an ad agency, design studio or in-house creative marketing group
- A portfolio of distinctive work that spans strong digital storytelling and traditional design; experience with motion/video is a plus
- Proficiency in Adobe CC programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Sketch
- Experience building and designing presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides
- Intellectually and artistically curious, inspired by diverse cultural reference points
- Comfortable giving and receiving feedback; ability to manage differences of opinion and communicate with all personality types with respect, candor and caring
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize work and resources
- Ability to distill complex ideas into simple concepts, defend the work and be the expert in the room
